the frightened girl,
a prescience of abandonment
again closes her eyes tight
and makes a wish.
but there are no stars tonight
no moon
no shadows cast from bright lights
in someone’s eyes.
she lives nowhere, and
in no one’s heart she burrows
with her tiny fragile fingers
seeking someone’s smile.
