Moon

There was no moon that night. No light reflected upon the faces he met in the streets. So he walked forward in the dark, hardly able to see his feet when he dropped his head at her door. He took a breath and pressed the doorbell.

This was a mistake, he could feel it in his bones. Still, here he was, unable to explain it except for the knowledge of his love for her. Would his feelings be reciprocated? Or would he walk away feeling the fool? Perhaps it would be neither, seeing how she wasn't home.

He turned to leave and thought he saw the curtain move, a shadow perhaps. He looked back at the door, half-expecting it to open. But when it didn't, he glanced at the window hoping to see, to know if he had just subtly received her response. It seemed, as with everything else between them, all answers would continue to remain unsaid, at least for another day.

Slowly he made his way home, walking beneath the dark side of the moon.

I loved your choice of final image, the lasting metaphor ... good choice, good idea

Such a sad event-how could someone literally hide from another in those circumstances?

Still, we don't know what happens 'tomorrow'.. and, there is no happiness without action, which this character has chosen to take.
