In art class, Gabrielle had learned that green was the colour of hope. Since then, whenever life got wickedly hard and she needed every charge of positive energy she could create, Gab garbed herself in green: green jacket, green purse, green watch, jaded earrings, and green-inked pen. Some days she even streaked her hair green. It didn’t matter what people thought then because nothing much really mattered once hope was gone.
